Hey. I think a lot of people that are interested in hacking i-appliances
are also interested in wearables... forward me a copy of the mailing list
subscribe info, okay?

First off, the "limited write" capability isn't that big of a deal. A
discussion on the i-opener list resulted in the opinion that it was
comparable to a number of years of reasonable use. I still wouldn't
recommend using it for a swap device, but I wouldn't be afraid of
mounting a /home partition off of it, either.

The big problem is the Sandisk unit on the i-opener is soldered on to the
motherboard.

Note that Disk On Chip chips are fairly cheap, and it is not difficult to
find SBC vendors that sell US$250-300 Super 7 boards that include 16 or 32
megs of DoC. Also, I saw at N+I last week a couple of Super 7 boards that
had a Compact Flash slot on them. While the power requirements of a
full-blown Pentium-class Super 7 board is probably not in the realm of
what I consider "wearable", it does show that the technology is coming to
the hobbyist community Real Soon Now(tm).
