running:
evtmgr -v
gives you a display of all of the events passing through their event
management. note references in the binary to their 'application
infrastructure' (or maybe that's a different binary that has that, i
forget) -- you can send events with evtmgr too; see the binary for a
table of all the possible events.
this looks like local stuff, not mirrored over the network, but who
knows what it does when you're connected? if someone could run evtmgr
-v and do a log of everything it prints as it boots up, establishes a
net connection, and logs on, and post it to the list, that'd be really
cool..

phoenix is a custom NPL utility (it calls nplog)
(3)
the program dsmfile apparently makes a remote DSM blob appear as a
file on the filesystem. judging from the number of source files they
put some work into this.
in other words, it lets them mount applications/data files over the
network!
(4) sorta cute:
a script somewhere suggests that ztest is an app installed on all new
IO's that tests the hardware and then deletes when the hardware
passes. the web browser is installed gzipped because there's not
enough room for it and ztest at the same time. after ztest is
deleted, the web browser's uncompressed and the gzip's deleted.

so there's this thing called updated that performs software updates.
it has a package system, versioning, and a fuckin *scripting
language*. i kid you not. it also has some concept of the host it's
supposed to contact for updates (216.136.56.157 5882 on my system).
also, there's an option that lets you change your device id (though
maybe you need to do it some other places too..)
am i the only one who thinks this stuff is really cool?
anyone interested in setting up a web page where we can all post notes
on the different things in the directory tree and what they do? maybe
you could have the directory tree as the main menu, and then people
can attach notes to each thing in the tree as we figure out what they
are and what you can do with them. and there could be a link that
shows either the text of the file (if it's a script/config file) or a
disassembly (if it's a binary..)
also, I wonder if someone could make my life just a bit easier by
sending me a sandisk image, so I don't have to worry about messing
mine up? one of these days I'll get PPP up, it's just sorta
annoying..
