Automotive transients can span a large range of spikes dips and drop-outs.
I'm not sure but i would hope that a well designed inverter would compensate
for them. I work for a place that makes electronics that go in cars and run
tests on the automotic transient simulator. We run several different pulses
ranging from what would happen when a car is started to what happens if the
ground is dropped from the battery to someone charging thier battery off
another car... we have designed into the ciriuts overvoltage protection and
surge suppression and what not... but all we have to worry about is whether
our product comes back up and functions correctly after a reset... not
something you would want from a computer... now if it had a battery backup
along with the inverter that might be a good combo and make sure the pc
doesn't drop below the threshold voltage needed to keep it running. As for
overvoltage spkies...as long as they have a zener diode or something along
those lines to hold the voltage from spiking you should be ok.
Check the specs on the invertor is what i would suggest....

So I got an inverter today (I figure $39 for 300 watts is better than I
would do with my own parts) but I wonder, what do I need to worry about
in terms of spikes, dips, and surges when I start the car, turn on the
lights, etc. Any ideas? I've never been a car stereo before =)
